June 26, 2012: Feminine Rose Card #2

This card showcases one of my favorite techniques - you stamp an outline image on Watercolor Paper with Versamark Ink and heat emboss it in Clear. Then you take a Stampin' Write Marker and outline the dark areas, and use a Blender Pen to spread the color over the entire area. The results are stunning in person, and make you look like a fancy painter. :)

February 15, 2012: Clean & Simple Sympathy Card

As I know I've shared before, I struggle a lot with sympathy cards. I never seem to know how to strike the right note, but I usually find that simple, elegant cards are best. You want the recipient to know that you care, but I don't want to card to seem frivolous or trite. And not cheap or tacky - never that!
Still, it's very hard to hit the right balance of simple and elegant. I chose to reuse one of the Valentines from my class this past month (THIS one) to make this sympathy card. It took me about four tries for this one - I hope I hit the mark. :)

December 8, 2011: A Sympathy Card

Sympathy cards are one of those things I unfortunately need on occasion, but struggle to make. This one is CASEd from somewhere - I thought I pinned it on Pinterest so I could find it again, but I guess not. :( If you recognize it, I'll edit this post to give proper credit!
It came out very elegant and subdued in person. I used the Silver Cardstock, although it looks blue in the picture.

March 14, 2011: Thinking of You

I recently needed a quick little "Thinking of You" type card for a coworker who is having a bit of a tough time. I often find, when I need this sort of card, Stampin' Up!'s Thoughts and Prayers stamp set fits the bill. It's just a nice sort of comforting set and I like using it.
For this card I used Very Vanilla and stamped this floral branch and sentiment in Soft Suede. I used a scrap of Cherry Cobbler seam binding from my upcoming One Sheet Wonder class and used a small scrap of Cherry Cobbler cardstock to punch the tiny flower punchies. Pearls finished this card in such an elegant way. I just love these colors - so rich and pretty yet soothing as well.

March 5, 2011: Praying for You

Another tough card...closely akin to the dreaded sympathy card, the praying for you card is always a difficult one. Trying to strike the right note is so important, yet seems elusive. I'm usually on the fence when I finish one, but I think I like this one better than most.
Pals Paper Arts challenge #83 was the colors Baja Breeze, Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand which I thought was perfect for this card. I also used the sketch from Stamping 411 #193 for this card, so I am entering it in both challenges. There were extra elements in the sketch, but I like to keep my sympathy and thinking of you cards very clean so I streamlined the sketch.
I used Stampin' Up!'s Tulip Frame embossing folder to just emboss the corners of this oversized card, along with Baja Breeze seam binding. The center stamp is from Thoughts and Prayers, and I used the tiny single Hydrangea from Because I Care, one of the current Level 1 Hostess sets.
You can't see it in the picture, but I triple matted the central square and put dimensionals between the bottom layer (Sahara Sand) and the middle layer (Baja Breeze). I love the look; it seems more special than just putting the dimensionals on the bottom of all three layers, and makes the ribbon lay better. I debated a Sahara Sand or Baja Breeze card base, but ultimately chose Very Vanilla. I think it lightens up the whole card - what do you think??
