July 30, 2012: Floral Frames Framelit Ornaments

 Last year I went crazy making the pop up star  ornaments...I think I must have made 50 of them!  I learned how to do them by using the amazing Tami White tutorial (I'll embed her You-Tube video at the end of this post).

One thing I learned through making them is you can use any shape that can be evenly divided into quarters - not just squares!  As soon as I saw the Floral Frames Framelits in the new catalog, I saw they had 8 petals...perfect for pop up flowers.  :)

You make these the exact same way - and I love that when they are all folded up they make a heart!  These ornaments actually make perfect gift tags for a present or a wine bottle neck.  I often put plain cardstock on the sides and stamp them with a "To: From:" stamp, or a birthday sentiment.

So there you have it - pop up flower ornament tags!

This is the third and last card of my April Mechanical Card Class. I really wanted to do a pop-up card, and this is the one I designed using Word Play, Great Friend and Fifth Avenue Floral. I thought it came together perfectly, and I loved the Soft Suede, Garden Green and Perfect Plum color combo. :)

June 10, 2010: "MOM" Pop-Up Card

Pin It Now! This is a fun card I did for Mother's Day last year. I decorated the front with a metal pin threaded through a Sizzix diecut, a large label cut from my Slice and a punched fleur de lis. (Mom loves FDLs!)

I wanted the middle to be a real wow, so I cut 4" letters with my Slice and made an accordion of pop-ups to set the letters up and out. I was pleased with the end result.

Although I often think it, I really do need to dust off the Slice more often. I'm always impressed with the look that I can achieve and I really do have several cards. :) I am very much a Cuttlebugger and I love manual die cutting, but there is definitely a size versatility factor with the electronic cutters.

People often ask me about my Slice, and if I would recommend it. Due to the size limitation (only up to 4") I don't think I would recommend it as someone's only diecutter. However, as a compliment to my Cuttlebug it is perfect for me and I love it!

May 17, 2010: Pop-Up House Card

Pin It Now! Since I'm under the impression that you like pictures of my nails...

Actually, I just thought you might enjoy this card, and when I took the pics I couldn't figure out how to keep the card open. Since then, I've seen a lot of you intelligent card makers using floral frogs - now I just need to get one. :)

This was my first attempt at a house pop-up. I did several out of cardstock, then I cut apart a photo from Wikimedia Commons to make this realistic one. It was so labor intensive that I will probably never do it again, but here is the result all the same.
