September 5, 2011: Simply Scored Christmas Ornament

Pin It Now!
For the door prize at my class last month, I really wanted to try out the rosettes (some call them lollies) that we have now all been making like crazy since the the Simply Scored Scoring tool came out in the Holiday Mini. :)

I still had some of the the Timeless Portrait Designer Series Paper on my desk from the class project, so I used strips of that to make my large rosette, and Whisper White for both sides (I made mine two sided, so three rosettes glued together). Each strip is scored every 1/2", accordion folded. TIP from Sharon Skelton: if you are making your scores every 1/2", you need 2 strips of 11" paper glued together (Sticky Strip works best). If your scores are every 1/4", you only need one 11" strip).

Width is very important on these rosettes, or they won't fold flat. (Yes, I did learn this the hard way!). For large rosettes, your strips should be 2 to 2 1/2." Smaller rosettes with 1/4" folds should be 1 - 1 1/2." These are the sizes I found worked for me. Hopefully we will start seeing some lists of approved sizes as these become more popular!

Some of the of the instructions say to score every 1" on one side, and then do the ones in the middle from the other side. I've tried both and I really don't see that it makes a difference. However, I did one tiny rosette with the scores every 1/8" apart, and that one it did help to have the scores on the correct sides.

I attached my rosettes together with Tombow Mono Adhesive, which worked quite well. So I didn't have to hold them while the glue dried, I set an Extra Large Punch on each to weigh it down. :)

To cover the center hole, I added a 1" Circle Punchie of Basic Black Cardstock with an Antique Brad in the middle to both sides. Also, so it would hang on the tree, I punched a hole with my Crop-a-Dile in one of the ridges and threaded some 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon through.

Once I figured out the strip widths, this was a super easy, fast project. The new Simply Scored makes a whole tree full or wreath of these so attainable!
