December 28, 2011: December Class Snow Globe

Finally sharing my snow globe from, class a couple weeks ago. :) This one was so simple, but so fun! We used a standard glass ornament, and filled them with mini Alder Cones (incidentally, these are the same ones as on the cover of the Holiday Mini catalog - I get mine on Ebay) and Mica Flakes.

Crystal Effects is the perfect adhesive for both the ornament and the ornament top so the filler doesn't leak out over time!

The image inside the globe is from Beautiful Season stamped in Jet Black Staz-On Ink on Window Sheet, and then used a few sharpies for color. I used the Circle Scissor to cut these out. TIP! Use Dotto Repositionable Adhesive to attach the Window Sheet directly to your cutting surface; makes this project a breeze!

The base is an olive can covered in Garden Green Cardstock, and we stamped the swirly image from Pines & Poinsettias in Garden Green Classic Ink on top to add interest. The seam is covered in Early Espresso Quilted Satin Ribbon attached with Sticky Strip.

The main image is similar to the one I used yesterday; a Cherry Cobbler Wide Oval Punchie on the back of a Whisper White Ornament Punchie, with Early Espresso Baker's Twine on top. The image is from Pines and Poinsettias, and we used Early Espresso, Old Olive and Real Red Stampin' Write Markers directly on the rubber before stamping.

Although they are impossible to photograph, I LOVE making snowglobes! I did these as hostess gifts recently, and I can't wait for my snowglobe class on Saturday! PLEASE let me know if you would like to come - I'm trying to finalize my list. :)

These are so super simple to make - class is going to be great fun!

January 12, 2011: Last Snowglobe. :)

This is the last snowglobe that I made this past Christmas. I made this one for Jeff's dad and his wife. Jeff's dad loves flannel, so I used paper printed in a flannel pattern, kraft, and green scraps to create this globe.

Inside the globe is the elk from Yukon and trees from Lovely as a Tree. The stamping on the kraft is the geese from Definitely Decorative Pines. I also used the 1 3/4" circle punch for the front. It's a perfect size. :)

January 11, 2011: Home Snowglobe

Pin It Now! This is the snowglobe I made my parents this Christmas. All the stamp sets I used on this one are retired. :( I chose the house stamp from You and Yours, the pinecone and pine bough from Definitely Decorative Pines, and the square pinecone image from a SU 2003 set (name unknown - I bought it at a garage sale!).

Mom loves kraft paper and jute twine, so I wanted to make sure I fit those elements in.

A few reminders:

I'm still running my ribbon and vintage bauble shares, and I still have spots left for my Valentine card class 1/22 (12 days away!!! Yikes!!).

January 10, 2011: Christmas Cardinal Snowglobe

Back to the snowglobes! This was also one of my favorites this Christmas. I made it for my brother and his wife; the trees reminded me of my family's Christmas tree hunting expeditions. I was fortunate to grow up first in Alaska and later on 140 acres in North Idaho, so there was always plenty of acreage to hunt for the perfect tree. Although, in Alaska, you have to cut down a very, very tall tree and cut the top off to make a standard Christmas tree. Permafrost and the lack of year round sun ensures that the boughs only grow on the tops. :)

Anyway (what is she rambling on about now?), I used Scenic Season for the trees, and the two step bird punch to make the cardinal. The musical notes is a SU wheel and I used the Scallop Trim corner punch for the front square.

Several people have e-mailed me to ask what I used to stamp on the acetate inside the globes. After some trial and error, I discovered that Staz-On, being a solvent ink, works perfectly; and, frankly, is the only thing that does. For the color I had to use something equally as permanent. I'm sure Copics would work fine, but I used Sharpies. :)

January 8, 2011: Bear Snowglobe

This was the snowglobe I made for Jeff's oldest brother and his family. Another avid hunter and outdoorsman, I chose bears as reminiscent of Yellowstone Park where Jeff's family has spent a lot of time. The large bear in the globe is from SU's long retired Yukon, and the small bear on the front is from SU's Wildlife. I used the 1 3/4 Circle Punch on the Very Vanilla in the front, and the green behind it is retired SU (I'm really not sure what it was called, but it's quite old. I got a half package as a gift and I know it was purchased in the early '90s).

I also used Lovely as a Tree to add some extra trees to the scene. I'm always amazed how LAAT fits into whatever I am making...so versatile!

Big plans today - I have my upline's stamp camp, I need to put up flyers for my card class, drop off a few catalogs, do some crafty shopping and create some new projects. I was asked to do my first SU workshop late this month and a Mommy & Me showcasing 3-D projects early February, so I gotta start planning!
