I wanted to share the card I made my Daddy for Father's Day. :)  As many of you know, he is a private pilot.  When I was in college, he would come in his shared mustard and white Piper Commanche to fly me home on weekends.  I ADORED that plane - absolute vintage elegance.  I truly think she was the prettiest plane I've ever had the privilege to fly in...she always made me feel like Rita Hayworth or Audrey Hepburn.  Broke my heart when she was sold.  :(

Anyway, I was fortunate to find this stamp (non-SU) with the same markings as the Commanche, and with a touch of More Mustard she really looks like the original!

I used a band of Pacific Point to accent my Whisper White card base, and the center is an Apothecary Accent Framelit diecut sponged with Marina Mist.  I also used a Bitty Banners Framelit with Teeny Tiny Wishes.  Dad has always wanted to drag banners.  :)

This was so much fun to make, and I think Dad really loved it!

June 28, 2011: Father's Day Tent Card

Pin It Now! My very last Father's Day card of 2011! This was made on commission, and I was asked to go with a camping theme. I instantly thought it would be fun to do a card shaped like a tent, and when the flaps open that would be the inside of the card.

Ordinarily, when I want to make a card of an unusual shape I find a template online. For the first time, I couldn't find one! So I started from scratch and this is the result. :)

I used Pumpkin Pie cardstock , and inside the tent is Very Vanilla. Both the stamp sets are long retired: Fishin' and Fly Fishing. The ink is Chocolate Chip, and the sentiment is retired from the Summer Occasions Mini - it was a hostess set called Something to Celebrate. I also used the Ticket Corner Punch for the insert.

Such a fun card - I enjoyed this one. :)

June 27, 2011: Second to Last Father's Day Card

Almost done with the Father's Day cards this year! This is the last motorcycle one, too. :) I used Garden Green cardstock for my base card, and accented it with More Mustard matted on Chocolate Chip for my focal point.

The stamp is the long retired Born to Ride again stamped in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink. The "screw" brads are non-SU, and I wrapped them in Linen Thread for extra interest.

Again, I've rounded the corners with the 1 3/4" Circle Punch to get that wide, sweeping look. Love it!

GOOD NEWS! After neglecting my Etsy shop shamefully for a considerable time, I'm filling it up again with shares, kits and finished items. I wasn't really sure what to do with my extra class samples (I usually make two) and kits, so this is it! I think it will also be a good outlet for product shares, which is something I love to do. Stay tuned!

I'm so excited about my class this afternoon! It will be a small class, which is always kind of nice in a way. As soon as I knew it would be a small group of more experienced stampers I packed a couple more techniques into my cards, and planned for them to do their own die cut work. :)

Here is another Father's Day card for you. The stamp set is long retired called Born to Ride. Motorcycles are perennially popular, and this was a commission for a man who owns a soft tail Ironhorse. I'm not a motorcycle expert by any means, but I think this stamp looks similar to his bike!

I chose Whisper White for my card base, and used Marina Mist for the scallop circle. To make that fun edge I die cut the circle with the Big Shot using the Scallop Circle Die. Then I turned the cut circle half a scallop over on the die and ran it through again. This works great with either the 2 3/8 Scallop Circle Punch or the 1 3/4" Scallop Circle Punch - just use a scrap of Post-It note as a handle for the second punch. Or, you could do a double with the Scallop Circle #2 Die! You can also use the punch twice technique with the Scallop Edge Punch. I like how it gives a more masculine flavor.

My images are stamped in Night of Navy ink - it's a super simple card (even for me!) but I think it has a lot of impact. And my customer was ecstatic. :)

I'm off to finish packing for class. I'm always worried about forgetting something that it takes forever to pack...and repack...and double check...and pack again...

This is the card I made for my own Daddy this year. I know, I know...the stamp set is long retired. But I've kept it around because I love it, and I knew he would, too. :)

It's a very simple card of Crumb Cake and Night of Navy cardstock with Chocolate Chip ink. A little crumpling, a little tearing, a little sponging and that's it!

June 22, 2011: Sail Away for Father's Day

I think this was my favorite of the cards I made for Father's Day this year - this was Jeff's choice for his dad. I CASEd several of the elements from a card I saw on Splitcoaststampers.

It's really a very simple card - I masked off a base Whisper White card with plain computer paper, and sponged on Marina Mist Classic Ink. When sponging, I left a portion in the middle lighter. Then I stamped Sail Away, an a la carte stamp from the new Summer Mini Catalog, on top in Night of Navy Classic Ink.

I stamped Sail Away again in Night of Navy on a scrap of Whisper White and cut out just the sails. I accented them with a Pumpkin Pie Stampin Write Marker before adding them on top of my stamped sailboat with tiny snips of Dimensionals.

My favorite "Imagine the Possibilities" is from Word Play stamped in Night of Navy Classic Ink.

June 21, 2011: Motorcycle for Dad

Motorcycles are always a popular theme for Father's Day, and this year I made three. The stamp Motorcycle is retired from last year's summer mini, but the guys love it so I kept it around. I like how effortless it is, and it can even be colored pink. :)

For this card, I chose a Very Vanilla base and stamped it all over with the clock gears from Sense of Time in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink. It really does look like some sort of mechanical motorcycle part! I'll be sad to see Sense of Time go at the end of this month. It's the only set on the retirement list that I was really sad to see. :(

I matted my focal image in both Marina Mist and Bashful Blue cardstock, and added a 2 3/8" Scallop Circle punchie, punched twice to make an interesting edge. The Thinking of You comes from the Hostess level 1 set Silhouette Sentiments. Dimensionals add an extra touch of importance to the central image.
